Re: Broken China

Yeah, understandably Rick is gonna be predominatly keyboard-oriented...That's OK. I noticed on that song "Runaway" that he must have used the same effects tapes that were used on "Empty Spaces" from THE WALL. (eerie sounds like from the engineroom of a freighter)...That's OK, that's the kind of stuff all us Floydoids love!

Another, seperate, reference to THE WALL on BROKEN CHINA.

It gets better and better. FWr, have you missed something?

Re: Broken China

I don't think those sounds resemble "Empty Spaces" very much, in "Runaway".

The closest resemblance, as I said before, is in the second guitar solo in "Along the Shoreline". I tried listening to "Black Cloud and I can't hear that supposed resemblance at all.

Plot-wise, Broken China bears SOME resemblance to The Wall in the isolation suffered during the first three "movements"--it's in the fourth where Broken China does what The Wall cannot: illustrates hope and healing.

Re: Broken China

But the Wall does illustrate what is more realistic, that there will always be difficulties and coping with them, or moving on or whatever is difficult, and an ever evolving process. Isn't that kinda what the last track meant.

Re: Broken China

The last track on which album? Because if you think that everything in "Breakthrough" is picture-perfect, that is NOT what is being said there.

To me, the end of The Wall is a loss, rather than success. He may be exposed now, but the last song has a funeral-like air to it. He does not have the coping mechanisms anymore to handle anything--he really seems destroyed.

Re: Broken China

It's not that everything is cheery and happy, but that life goes on, which is true. Real life is full of crisis after crisis.

Of course. And that's exactly what these lines in "Breakthrough" mean:

"They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure."

The key change is in COPING.

Re: Broken China

Half.com is run by Ebay, but focuses in music! Maybe they have something.

You can also try www.cdnow.com and see if they have it. I know Amazon does, but they are currently charging a stupid, rip-off price. I got mine for $17 (including shipping) from them--I don't know why the price has spiked like this! It's silly!

Re: Broken China

Yeah, but I should've included this: it's CURRENTLY going for $27! Which is stupid, for one CD!

Re: Broken China

I can't understand it, personally. Wouldn't it be in their interests to present a good deal?

Re: Broken China

Not when people will pay more. Most album shops in Canada sell Pink Floyd albums for $25.99. Not the nicest price.
