Why not just get a job and earn the money yourself instead of jumping thru hoops for dad?

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

Because of American child labor laws its extremely hard for me to get a job at 15 and straight A's well I should have em, but I really fucked up.

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

Finally got a guitar, necks a bit out of shape and as a whole is a bit beat up but I got the thing for $20 with an amp. I have to get new strings, the ones on it were so rusty I couldn't even tune it. Besides the fact that any rust requires new strings. I think its a strat knock off, but it might have some fender parts on it, apparently it was custom built.

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

If the neck is too out of shape you may have just wasted your $20.00. Drop it by your local guitar shop and let the luthier take a look at it. He'll be able to let you know if it needs any work.

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

I agree on having it checked out. Heck I bought my first guitar 140$ brand new and it was terrible. The damn thing wouldn't stay tuned for more than 2 minutes. And I'm not talking about the amp my friend gave me for free. I think he just wanted to get rid of it frankly...I know you're just starting but it would make the learning thing a bit more fun if you actually had something playable. Just a thought.

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

I had a friend who plays bass look at it yesterday, I need to get the rod turned to straighten out the neck. Its a little bit bent which probably explains not being able to tune it. Should be able to fix it.

Re: I am getting a Guitar for the first time

Muhwah it works.
Been playing for 3 weeks, have all basic chords down including 7 chords.
Can play Wish You Were Here solos and all.
Can transition my chords well.
Working on a Scale.

Any other advise with what to try guys.
