Now You Can Take His Guns

I am shocked no one has yet mentioned the passing of Charleton Heston. Besides starring in one of my top ten movies (The Planet of The Apes) he did a number of other legendary films in Hollywood's heyday.

Later in life he was President of the NRA and proudly so.

RIP Charlie

It was worse than that. Moore took parts of different Heston speechs & statements delivered at different times out of context and spliced them together to create a totally phoney image. But that's a Michael Moore specialty. Dishonest propaganda.

Anyway, RIP Mr. Heston
aka/ Moses, Ben-Hur, etc.

Re: Now You Can Take His Guns

The dj on a local station was making a lot of 'from my cold dead hands' jokes, which were a little tasteless, I thought.
But at least Charlie was committed to his cause which is more than I can say for a lot of other people.

Whatever, he's gone and I hope he's happy wherever he is.

Which is exactly the moment that I began hating Michael Moore. Because he'd just spent like an hour or something analyzing and discussing the differences between American culture and other western cultures, and proves that it isn't gun ownership that makes the difference (Canada has similar numbers), and is poised to make some sort of brilliant indict-everyone-for-complacency-and-cowboy-mentality-combined move, and then all of a sudden forgets all of that and says 'Hey it must be because of gun ownership! Let's go blame Charlton Heston personally.' ....What? Bowling for Columbine could have been a great film, an introspection-inspiring, meditative analysis of why American culture so often produces such blinding violence, and right at the brink of doing so, it went for cheap laughs.

R.I.P., Bright Eyes.

Re: Now You Can Take His Guns

Micheal Moore did a real number on the people and on Charlton Heston personally. The sad thing is, when people to this day tell me what a great movie it is and I point out the flaws (both in what Gerald and Stratman said) I am not taken seriously. Most people won't go back and rewatch the movie, even when I tell them to look for something specific, such as the outfit that Mr. Heston was wearing changed mid-sentence.

But enough about that, I still think Charlton Heston was in some fine movies and seemed to be a man of character, even if I believe that his acting could have been sharpened a little.

I always liked Ben-Hur.
Khartoum was an unheralded gem that I went back to the theater again to watch a second time.
I would agree Heston was not the greatest actor of all time (he was "old-school-over-the-top-dramatics" at times) but the same might be said of Humphrey Bogart, one of the Hollywood all-timers.

Ben Hur was great
Micheal Moore should eat another Pizza and shut up.
It amazes me that people take his drivel as fact
He couldn't hold Heston's jock
What a loser

Heston wasn't a spot on Bogey's toga, IMO, but he deserves props too.

I agree with this, but I still love me some Planet of the Apes (which is similarly attack-with-the-bluntest-object-you-can-find).

Hmmm....Moses before and after the "Burning Bush".

It's Bush's fault!

Burning Bush lied, Egyptians died!

Re: Now You Can Take His Guns

I'm always fascinated to see how old-age-makeup'd actors' appearances differ strikingly from how they actually looking when they become old.
