Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

This is my interpretation of some Pink Floyd albums and what they mean. Not all their albums are in here but I took the ones I believe related to my subject the best. I suppose it isnt what floyd may have had in mind but hell you never know right? If I mixed the albums up correctly I could get a great story out of it but that would spoil other peoples fun. I got some information from songmeanings.net but most of it I thought of in my head and just put it all together. It is pretty deep but I think it is very good. All of the stuff you will read is my ideas and other ideas of people that are similar but I just borrowed some just because they can word it better than I can. Here it is.

Album: Meddle: Album is about the feelings you experience. Basically it is reverse. From echoes up to One of these days. It goes,

1. Echoes: Is the song about how life began. The first verse could be about the evolution of life moving out of the sea onto the land (towards the light). It may also be suggesting that we will never know why life IS or where it is going.
The second verse might tie in with this notion by suggesting that we are all part of a greater life system or consciousness or spirit. We can't describe it, but we might be able to experience it fleetingly through these chance glances. Insightful, inspiring and beautiful! Evolution.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

Album: Dark Side Of The Moon: This album beings a long time after evolution and now we are in a current day society(USA, England or somewhere). This album goes in order from 1 to 10.

1. Speak to me/Breathe: "Speak to me" is about a child or anyone wanting to communicate with people and things, they are adapting to life and the world around them learning things as they go on. "Breathe": They are "breathing(or just fitting in)" with society now and learned about life and how to go about business.
2. On The Run: "On the run" is just about that. One is always on the run doing stuff, finishing business, you are always busy and never free.
3. Time: "Time" is after you've finished your business and you have a bit of free time. You realize that all this time is gone and you don't know what really happened.
4. The Great Gig In The Sky: "The Great Gig In The Sky" is about religion, heaven and hell. The thing that everyone wonders about. Heaven aka The Great Gig In The Sky.
~~ The songs from here on out are about the issues that occur in life.
5. Money: "Money" is a self-explanitory thing. It judges basically most things in life and while your on the run you are collecting and spending money.
6. Us and Them: "Us and Them" could have a few meanings but I believe the 3 most major in life are these: Politics, Social positions(Higher Class/Lower class) and War. Us would be the lower class as most of the people in the world are lower/middle class. Them would be
the higher more powerful people. Us could also mean the people vs. big business in politics. Media controls whatever is best for it and it may not always favor the people or Us. And war is the most obvious as it is in the song. Us would be the people fighting and higher would be
the people not fighting, just dictating what happens.
7. Any Colour You Like: " Any Colour You Like" is pretty deep. The reason it is so deep is because you can just listen to the music and take the song name and get the meaning. In life people will always be pulling on you to do one thing or another, but as you get older you
realize that whatever you choose from your heart is the best thing. Any colour you like is the best.
8. Brain Damage: "Brain Damage" can be taking in many ways but since I am going for the whole "life" scheme of things I'm not going to go with the whole insanity part of the song. It could very well mean that when you are dying and becoming old, your brain can't function
anymore becuase of all the shit you have been through. All the people in life that have died, all the fighting you have gone through and everything is about to dissapeer into thin air. You are pondering and killing youself more by just thinking so deep. You wonder what will happen
but then mabye you realize(this part continues onto Eclipse but since it is a different song just look down and read as it is 1 song, hope that makes sense lol) .
9. Eclipse: "Eclipse" that all you did and all you touch(all the lyrics sum up my statment) are just eaten by The Dark Side Of The Moon or death.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

Album: Wish You Were Here: This album is about after one is dead and other people are mourning for you and telling the world(or family) about your accomplishments and stuff like that.

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part One & Two): I put the 2 songs together to make it easier for me."Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part One & Two)" is about ones accomplishments in life and what they were. The lyrics once again bring out the main idea.
2. Welcome To The Machine: "Welcome To The Machine" is after you are dead you are going to your grave and the machine would be death. Welcome my son could be ones father welcoming them to the after-life or could be the earth welcoming you. I'm not sure 100% on this one
but i'm sure The Machine is death as it is a never ending machine.
3. Have A Cigar: "Have A Cigar" is a odd song cause I'm not sure how it fits into this. I mean i suppose it could relate to accomplishments again, and all the ones you have done. It could be from a close friends view on how the world is evil and just revolves around "Money".
4. Wish You Were Here: "Wish You Were Here" is after the mourning process, but even though mourning process is "over" people still "Wish You Were Here". Again, I can't really fit the lyrics into the whole life thing because it was written for Syd as this whole album was
but I did manage to pull some deep meanings of life out of it but besides the title, I don't know.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

Album: Animals: I'm not going to go into details on this one because it is obvious about what it is about and if you don't know then you shouldn't call yourself a Floydian. I can relate this whole album to the political and social side of "Us and Them" off Dark Side.

Album: The Wall: Not Finished because there is only like 9739 million songs on this album. Briefly it is about the external struggles in life. All teh pressures and stuff.

I disagree with most of your interpretations, but interesting nonetheless.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

Depending on whether your going for the actual meaning of the songs/albums, or whether it's just your interpretation, a lot of it lies in your grasping at a concept that just isn't there.

We'll start with Dark Side

Speak To Me isn't about an infant, maybe to you, but in actuality it's just a little piece made by Rick Wright. "I've been mad for facking years, probably ages. I've always been mad, I know I've been mad..." doesn't really relate to infancy.

Breathe is an observation of materialism and lack of a heart a soul, kinda.

On The Run isn't about anything, it's instrumental

Time is about wasting your time, and looking back realizing you wasted your time.

GGITS isn't about anything, it's an instrumental

Money is about money

Us and Them is pretty much what you said

Any Colour You Like is an instrumental

Brain Damage is about "defending the notion of being different" - Roger Waters

Eclipse just kind of sums up the bittersweet feel of the album. "Everything under the sun is in tune, BUT the sun is eclipsed by the moon".

Wish You were Here is about the band pretty much.

Shine on - Very blatantly about Syd

Machine - Recording Industry

Cigar - Recording Industry

Wish You Were Here - Syd

The Wall is a story about a man named Pink who collapses under the struggles placed in his life. He builds a wall around his emotions and isolates himself from the world around him.

I really don't consider Meddle a concept album. I think Echoes shows their transition into songs that observe 1970's society.

But anyway......This shit is just off the top of my head.

I assume that the boy knows the original meanings of the songs but is only interpreting them as he sees them, which I think is pretty cool. Good work. I am 14. Welcome to the site.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

I think the great thing about Pink Floyd's albums is that they can mean different things to different people. People can make their own meanings based on experiences they've had in their lives or just how they interperated it. For instance When I first heard Welcome to the Machine I thought it sounded like a jail, but my dad told me it was about the pressures of the recording industry. I'm 14 too.

Re: A 15 year olds view. Might stun people.

Thanks. Yes I do know the true meaning of all the songs but as I stated I was taking it from a point of view of life. And for the instrumentals, I know they can't have meanings due to no lyrics but I can take the title and make something out of it. This isnt suppose to be about song meanings per say. It is suppose to be about all the songs from a few albums, added together to = a overall larger meaning. However, I don't think they are the real meanings of the song, but I found it interesting how I could take song titles with the lyrics a bit and sum it all up into a story of life and the struggles.

Actually it was made by Nick Mason.

Actually, it IS about death. The fact that it's not expressed by words but just music is irrelevant.

Interesting. But you've gotta be careful to avoid over-analyzing. People try to look too deeply into stuff, when it's really just on the surface. But whatever floats your boat.

Oh, and I turned 16 a few months ago...that means I can drive, and you losers can't! Ha!
