| Nick Perencevic says he's The Maestro Gilmour is the reason I started to play. He pioneered a sound that is instantly recognizable as his own, shattering and breaking stale pop and blues paradigms of his contemporaries. His sound is all his own, not being confined to any particular category or genre. I wish that more players would have the courage to explore and nurture new ways of approaching a medium that is in desperate need of ingenuity and creativity. Gilmours vibrato is unmatched. His primary genius and resulting tone lays in his willingness to feel a note where other players are prone to quickly pass over them believing that speed / quantity equals quality- not so. Trying to learn his music proves the fultility of such an endeavour. His approach is minimalist proving that one should use every note as if they cost $5 a piece. The best way to describe his playing on an emotional level is best referenced with this famous quote: "like Hendrix, Gilmour's sound FREEZES your blood with gentle riffs followed by sonic booms". Lets just hope we'll be able to get one more album from the maestro. Its been along time. 10 years and counting. Nick Perencevic - Stoney Creek, Ontario. |

Gilmour is one of the greatest guitarist ever. I agree with those statements that You have made. Gilmour is the master of tone taste. His slide guitar work is fab! On of the first to bring in Lap Steel Slide in Rock. Rock on GILMOUR!!! ROCK ON!!!

| Re: Nick Perencevic says he's The Maestro Probably one of the better posts on this site but I think the poster may be prone to hyperbole just a bit! Just kidding Nick. Are you saying it's not possible to learn his music? I disagree, my home boys call me Mr. Gilmour I sound so much like him--well now I'm exaggerating. I agree though. Gilmour's sound is soooo original and awesome--he puts to shame musically emasculated posers like Steve Vai and other shredders. Few guitarists can hold my attention and interest like gilmour. Gilmour is the MAESTRO indeed! Hope his wife doesn't do the yoko ono thing to him cause the lyrics on his recent solo work are painful. Musical arrangement, as usual, is beyond reproach. |

Yeah, I think Bono from U2 said something along this lines that it's better to add notes ONLY when needed. "Shine On" proves this point. |
