Live in Gdansk - Released in mid-September

Live album cover

"David's next release will be a live album, entitled Live In Gdańsk, recorded in Poland at his August 2006 concert. It is still a work in progress, with many more elements to be added, but we can at least say that it will be released in mid-September this year via EMI Records in Europe and Sony BMG Records in the rest of the world."

"The last concert on David's 2006 Summer Tour was held in front of 50,000 people at the shipyards in Gdańsk, Poland, at the request of the Gdańsk Foundation. The creation of the Solidarity movement, after Lech Walesa's sacking from the shipyards, led directly to the dismantling of the Soviet Union's control over the former Eastern Bloc, and to the reunification of Germany.

The concert was the only occasion on which David performed the tour material with an orchestra, using the 40-strong string section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zbigniew Preisner, who was responsible for the On An Island album's orchestral arrangements."

Re: Live in Gdansk - Released in mid-September

When a Pink Floyd fan says they'll "pass" on a live album of this quality, it seems there's just too much product out there. Anyone here remember when Floyd fans would sell their index fingers for an aged bootleg of The Wall? Times have changed.

I'm very much looking forward to this release. I like On An Island tremendously. But the I'm an old fart and prone to the sentimental laid-back sounds of a master stratocasterist.

Nifty cover art; however, I'm quite content to watch the RtN Blu-ray disc when I want to hear his live show.

Re: Live in Gdansk - Released in mid-September

i cant get over the way some people cant resist the urge to have a dig at Gilmours solo work.

There are definitley more Waters fans on here and fewer Floyd fans, the constant praise of waters and slagging of gilmour is part of the reason i rarely post. I thoroughly enjoy both waters and gilmours solo works, just a shame im one of the few!

Anyone i think this will be great, theres so much in the deluxe package, including 'wish you were here' from the glasgow, the first show i attended.

I'm not slagging anything! I bought the Blu-ray disc, which is nice, but this is pretty much the same thing over again and it's simply not my obsession to collect everything the man touches. You don't see me with all three formats of Rog's In the Flesh, either.

Re: Live in Gdansk - Released in mid-September

I will be getting this, even if only for the 5.1 of On An Island, which I do believe is a thrilling album.

I personally burned a new copy of the album with Take A Breath shoved in later on (like on the live set) and I suddenly enjoyed that song and the flow of the album SOOOO much more. To boot, I didn't fall asleep before the last couple songs either.

Red face STRICTLY GDANSKing

I'm neither here or there about the Gdansk album. Apparently, according to davidgilmour.com, there are no less than 5 different formats, which means, if you are a fan, you will want to buy them all. There's even a vinyl copy and a DVD documentary thingy too in the deluxe set and Wot's uh the Deal is only featured on the vinyl set. Which means if you want to have the complete set, you have to buy the complete set.....1 2 3 4 5 different times.

I just wish that Gdansk it wasn't so long ago. There is nothing new on this album, although like stated in many posts, it will be nice to hear OAI fully orchestrated.

The only thing I want is for David to do some concerts. It'll be worth it if he promotes the album and gets out there. I love seeing David and hearing him sing and play, It's a magical experience and I'm spirited away...........

I think his record company have got a lot to do with the many distributed formatting that is about to take place and the money making exercise its about to become.

Ho hum!

Talking Re: Live in Gdansk - Released in mid-September

.............I think most of the cash David makes from the this album will go to his CRISIS programme. We all like money, of course, but David does have a heart of gold where his charity is concerned and he isn't a bread-head. He ain't an angel either, me thinks, but he sure plays a mean, mean strat!

I only saw this today here:

http://www.nme.com/news/pink-floyd/38397

Boy I'm behind the news! Any Floyd completists shouldn't pass this up, I'm sure its'll be quality.
I wish we had more David concerts instead of the current Roger ones, I'd rather David solo do THAT material instead of Roger...

I didn't read anywhere that it says you HAVE to buy this product if you don't like it. It is the same tour that the other live show is from except the orchestra is added for the Gdansk show. I also don't see the problem with Dave putting out more live material. If he was completely silent the same people would bitch about that. So i guess what I'm sayin is I'M glad Dave is still making music and even if its not Floyd it still has merit. I personally enjoyed On an Island and the movie of the Concert. Although I wish he would come to Philly next time if he tour's again I got to see Roger anyway last summer and enjoyed his show. Bottom Line at least they are still tryin to be creative. Floyd is over . Get over it. Enjoy it for what this is. With that said I might or might not buy Gdansk. But I'm not going to bash it before it even is out. lighten up people Shit i wish Syd,John Lennon,George Harrison,Jimi Hendrix,Bon Scott,Keith Moon,John Enthwistle,Brian Jones,SRV,and many more. And that ain't never happening. Peace Go Eagles!!!

Who wants to bet Stratman is the 1st to get that Dave-Strat on this site?

Ain't that the truth.

It depends somewhat on the price. I've seen some scuttlebutt suggesting it will be in the $4000 range, in which case I'll pass, but I doubt it will be that lofty a sum. Probably more like $1500 range. That I can deal with.
