David Gilmour launches signature Strat
Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd legend lends his name to Fender

Jul 25, 2008

Fender are launching a signature model Stratocaster guitar.

The guitar, called the 'Black Strat', will be available from September 22 and is based on the star's iconic instrument that helped create his band Pink Floyd's revolutionary sound.

said: "I told Fender that it was just an ordinary Strat that I bought, but I must say they’ve done a great job of recreating it."

The release of the guitar will coincide with the release of Gilmour's 3CD live album 'Live In Gdansk', recorded on his 2007 solo world tour.

Good deal!

Maybe I'll put in my order early.

"Shall we buy a new guitar?" HELL YES!

If one does not care about resale value, I recommend saving the cash and building your own strat from top quality materials. Built a ONE peice swamp ash body with custom neck for half the price of the guilmour model. If one likes to change guitars every few years, not such a good idea as the partscasters do not resell for very much. However the sound and quality surpasses anything fender puts out.

Particularly since this Strat will set the Gilmour fanatics back upwards of four grand.

Re: Dave's getting a sig. strat.

Since the "MSRP" is 4 large, we can probably expect to pick up a copy for somewhat less after some time goes by, perhaps even $2000.

But that's still quite a high price for a strat. Nevertheless, I plan to keep my eyes open for a possible bargain on one down the road.

Re: Dave's getting a sig. strat.

HERE is my local dealer.
There it is.
In stock.
$4000.

I'm going to drive over tomorrow and play around with it, but I just can't justify paying 4 grand for a Strat. I've bought several nice guitars from these guys in the past and they'll probably offer me a "deal"...(like $3750)...but...

I propose that the APFFN take up a 'Strat for Stratters' collection to buy the guitar for stratman.

Let me be the first to donate - I'll chip in $20!
